Lockers for Literacy

Promoting Literacy
In 2006 Hawaii Self Storage implemented its "Lockers for Literacy" program that provides two books, theirs to keep, to local public school first graders to promote literacy. With every new locker rental, Hawaii Self Storage donates $2 from its profit to this fund. With lockers turning over an average of once per year and a total inventory of nearly 7,500 lockers in the five facilities, Hawaii Self Storage expects to purchase more than $14,000 worth of books in 2009 for 15 elementary schools.

Book Drive
With support from READ TO ME INTERNATIONAL our staff also volunteers to read to the students at the participating schools. Annually Hawaii Self Storage also promotes a customer bookdrive at each facility. The bookdrive offer our customers $2 rent credit for every slightly used donated book, puzzle, or game. In 2007 Hawaii Self Storage together with its customers collected over 3,000 books in which we donated to the Literacy Hawaii Bookmobile and other local libraries and elementary schools.
